So here was my crash course in baking. I saw this cake on 2 blogs and decided that I would have to give it a try. It took me approximately 4 hours to do...I tend to be a bit...well..art challenged ;) I can make steak and potatoes all day long like a pro..but cakes? I leave it to Bekah and Momma. So here it is..and it turned out way better than I thought. A little bit lopsided :)

Pranger Christmas 2009
Grandma and Grandpa are in a class all their own. Grandparents like them are few and far between. I love the warm, peace filled atmosphere that fills their home. There is never a time that you feel uncomfortable or like you can’t make yourself right at home. Barging through the front door looking for an extra CD-R because you ran out and need to burn a very important Hannah Montana mix or walking in wearing nothing but a towel with shampoo in hand because the water guy shut off the water and you need to take a shower. All the way down to coming up and stealing the mayo and flour. It’s always an open hug.
One thing that has stuck out to me vividly as I’ve gotten older is Grandma and Grandpa’s diligence to serve. They have created a home that is nothing less than a revolving door and it is nothing to have missionaries stacked up to come all month long to come and stay and I have never heard a complaint. Ever. Their weeks are filled with bibles studies and loving on people. I have learned from them that serving, being a servant is one of the highest forms of worship. They have found their lives by giving them away.
Grandpa is a man with an overflowing amount of revelation. Of God. Of the Word. When he is out tinkering here and there on Gators or fences, fixing things, fishing you can bet he is in prime time to hear from the Lord and that he is talking to him about something. Even if its as simple as asking God why the grass is green, Grandpa would do it. His wheels are constantly turning in his head although he may not say much. He is one of the best listeners and is FULL of wisdom that is priceless.
When I watch Grandma at times I swear she is an Ice Princess. It couldn’t be further from the truth. What you may look at as cold is actually solid strength in who she is. She has been a model of abiding. Unshakable. I admire that in her. She doesn’t bend with the wind but rather has a steel spine and will hold you accountable for your life. Straight up. I cannot count the times that I have beat on her door anywhere from morning to the middle of the night with things only she could walk me through. At times when I swore I wouldn’t make it. When I swore my family wouldn’t make it. Standing in the middle of battles that would mold me into who I am today, that would teach me to trust God right in the heat of the fire when fear was all I could feel. Grandma stood. Unshakable. Strong. Not moved. Her strength is contagious and her confidence in the Word brings peace.
Most Grandparents pass on things that as years go by, lose value, pass away. But mine, mine have passed on something far more precious, far more valuable, far more meaningful and that is a seed planted with a desire for God in their children and in me, their grandchildren. They have planted seeds of revelation and position in us. That is something that can never be bought. That is legacy. Although we may not be showed with tons of gifts and money but you can count on that they are praying. Because my walk with the Lord and my learning to abide is important to them. When you need that pillar of strength they will stand right along side you. When I leave I hope that I leave this same legacy to my own family, a legacy of life commited soley to the Lord.

Shotgun Season is Officially Open! *This is serious at the Diehms folks!
Shotgun season is a very exciting time around the Diehm House..especially for the boys! They spend months talking and making plans as to what tree they're sitting in and spend countless hours in the fall spotlighting deer to find the *Big One*. Why they wake up at 5am to freeze and wait for the crack of dawn and with a hopefulness..maybe to spot a monster buck..well..honestly..I'm not really sure. I think its a male thing actually because I'd rather sleep ;-). Nonetheless we have a ball watching them get excited about some animal prancing across a field..its very entertaining actually. They see one. They get all shaky and you'd think the world just stopped turning. Its so funny! But in the meantime us girls will be happy to stay in the warm house to ensure that they get yummy turnovers when they get back from the woods.
